Paul came home from the hardware store early Saturday morning to tell me "you might have some hikers stop by to use the internet in about 20 minutes" ... so I got out of my jammies and into some real clothes and then Paul called and said "they're really tired and just ate a huge breakfast, so it might be a while but they'll probably be by so keep a look out for them".
So, obviously they stopped by looking for electrical outlets to recharge their electronic devices and a place to rest their weary bones and tired feet. Turns out they had eaten at a local diner and all but one of them had picked the wrong menu items. So as the visit wore on, we had some very distressed young men in our care ... poor guys!
So, they abandoned their packs on the front porch, came inside to rest and juice up their stuff ... but during nap time one of them just got too sick and Paul took him up to the local hospital for some fluids (as he was losing them faster than we could keep up with!) and 2 of the 3 remaining went to sleep to try to settle their stomachs down. One of them was perfectly fine, so we went to the store for supplies! All the while, trying to determine if they'd gotten in to bad food ... or bad water! I don't think we have a confirmation ... but it appeared to be food poisoning in the end. YUK!

So this is TWEAK ... the hiker who got to visit the hospital and get all pumped up! TWEAK is from The North (CT I think).... and has been a member of the GEEK Squad! It was great fun talking with him about things ... and this is his website: ericjeffcoat.com ... so you can follow their hiking story! TWEAK has some interesting life stories to share ALREADY!
This is ACORN from Dothan, AL. This fella has an absolute cast iron stomach ... no problem with him. He & I went to the local store and picked up supplies whilst the other fellas were recovering. We had great conversation about real estate and such things, as well as hiking and trail stories. These are very intelligent and nice guys! Such a delight to have some adopt-a-sons for Mother's Day.
This is TANK who hikes in a kilt! He is from CT and is very interested in the Southern terrain. TANK had great stories of diving in Hawaii for our entertainment. What a nice guy too! I'm telling you, these fellas were a treat to talk with and have around for a little bit. TANK loves to eat! He ate a hamburger on the way to the trail head that was ULTRA impressive! Such a great lesson in burning calories! Hope he had enough fuel for his journey! Here is MoonTower from CT also. MoonTower is by trade a land surveyor. It was very interesting to hear some of his trade info about land owners and their rights in different areas and in different scenarios. MoonTower also suffered pretty intensely from the food, poor guy. But by Sunday noon time, these guys were all ready to hit the trail and on their way to Damascus, VA for the Trail Days festival that they have there. MoonTower was by far the first one ready to get moving! And TWEAK was definitely LAST to get ready ... funny how there is always a line up in any thing in life!
Here's Acorn all packed up and ready ....
Tweak ready to go
I would just like to thank the Mother's Day Fairy for bringing these delightful young men in to our lives and giving me some adopt-a-sons for the day! AND for having them be such great guys. What a true treat!
Hope all the moms had a great day ... and all the dads and kids enjoyed it just as well. The sun came out here ... Paul played in the garden yesterday (I'll post those pics later) and I even planted some hostas in the flower beds. Such fun!
Happy Monday to all!
P & C
